Local Food Cleveland

Hi all,
I want to let you know that if you are in need of veg scraps for your compost pile(s), I have the hook up for you. I work at a restaurant in Lakewood that puts all its fruit and veg scraps into 5 gallon bucket and puts them aside for gardeners. There is a lot of volume. Yesterday, I brought home 30 buckets. If you are interested, please email me by March 21 so that I can schedule pickups with those who are interested. You could come once a week and take anywhere from 5 -20 buckets, depending on how many others are interested and what day you are available for pickup.

Hi Josh,

I'll share this tonight with the community gardeners in Lakewood. Thanks for posting!

Hi Joshn ,
I am definitely interested in vegie scraps for composting; my schedule is flexible and I llive on west 45th street, so just tell me when and where. thanks so much terri
hello,
i too would be interested in some veggie scraps as well...a lot. i'll commit to a once a week pick up (more if necessary) for as much as i can take. i don't want to horde, but i've got some vacant lots i'm working on prepping for planting, and these would serve as some of the initial remediation and bed layering.

thanks,

stefan
Josh,

Is there still some available over there? I would like to pick up about 5 buckets.

Just once in a while.

I have a nice compost bin started at the farm.

Wondering how hard it is going to be to turn it all the time.

:-)

Hey Terri, Peter, Stefan and Dan,
I have read your posts/emails and am working on a schedule.I will post that here in the next few days. Thanks for your interest. I look forward to getting a regular schedule on track. Please consider having a buddy system so if you can't make it to pick up, your buddy can. I will be in touch soon.

Josh,

Is it too late to get in on this? I would be interested in about 5 buckets' worth. I live right around the corner from Melt - about a 5 min. walk, and have a pretty flexible schedule, so I am more than willing to fill in places in the schedule when others can't come.

thanks,
Cindy
Hi Josh,

I know I am a bit late on the message, but I will be putting together some "lasagna" beds within the next week and thought I would see if you will have some scraps available in the near future. Am I too late on this? If not, let me know.

Thanks,

Todd
Okay, let's try this schedule. If you can't do the day that I put you down for, please call me.
I think we are going to have to do a 2 week cycle.

Okay, just checking in here. Is anyone doing pickups? I ask because it appears that no one but Josh B is picking up.
Could everyone check in here and let me know what you are doing? If this schedule that I posted doesn't work, please let me know! So far Peter has, and (I think) we remedied his concern.
TERRI, I need to hear from you, since I have a source of compost for you nearer your house.
TODD, are you still doing weekly pickups when you come into town for soccer?
STEFAN, Are Saturdays working?

EVERYBODY, is this working? I haven't heard from any of you since this started rolling. I am concerned that with the warmer weather just around the corner, we will have rotting veggie scraps sitting in the basement of a restaurant.
Feedback please.
Thanks,
Josh
I picked up six buckets last Friday. Will do so again tomorrow.

I can pick up more shifts if others are not interested.

YES!!! and thanks so much for setting this up. i made my first pick-up a week from last saturday (immediately after you posted the schedule). made my second pick-up this past saturday, and returned all buckets yesterday.

i think i may have left a couple on my first pick-up because i didn't check all the "lidded" pails, but see that there was more this past week that had lids on them. saturday's are working great for me, but i may have to pass this coming saturday (or take a light 2-3 bucket load) as i'm out of town and the wife has a small car.

i'll post up thursday for sure to let everyone know if it's a pass.

btw...after dumping that stuff into the pile, i've gotta tell you, there's a lot of potential for some great vegetable stock/broth there.

thanks again josh for the hook-up.

stefan
picked-up saturday, and for the record you can fit 14 five gallon pails in a mini cooper...don't ask me, ask the wife.
