Tracey, Plum Creek Farm did the butchering and processing of our turkeys last year. Nice people. Here's contact info http://www.sustainlane.com/reviews/plum-creek-poultry/4YZIVYQULUPB3... and here's their Local Food Clev page http://www.localfoodcleveland.org/profile/PlumCreekFarm

I would also love to hear if anyone knows of a local place to process meat chickens and meat rabbits. I've been looking for a while - there must be somewhere out there :)

Sounds like you've done some great research. Do you know of anywhere to get meat rabbits processed?

I'd love to take you up on that Richard, but would have to barter rather than pay. How about emailing me at laura.euphoria@gmail.com?

Laura

I know of some ways you could set up such an operation using various pieces of software to help the process, so that many people can build up requests until it hits an 'economy of scale' before an order, and then using the website to process the order, do invoicing, etc. I would love to help you build up a website, as well!

Hi Jocelyn,

Our farm is willing to be the connector from rural providers to urban agriculture. We have gathered prices from local Amish farmers who raise chicks (turkey and chickens) and rabbits. We have designs and prices for coops, rabbit hutches, box beehives and top bar beehives. We have found someone who is willing to conduct workshops of raising and slaughtering meat rabbits. We have coordinated with a mill to provide locally grown, ground and mixed feed. We believe we have established some pricing from a supplier of apiary products nearby. We just don't have a structure in place to set up a buying club or find enough people who are interested. We started a site and never got past the first page http://www.countryfarmtocityfarmnetwork.com/index.html Any ideas welcomed!

hello jocelyn,

We tried to organize all of this but it seemed to fall through, I think. If you are still interested, I think it would be beneficial to start talking about a kind of general group purchasing co-op for urban agriculture, maybe focused on Cleveland's Near West Side? I would like to get together and talk about this some more, sometime soon. Will you be at Think Tanks tomorrow?

Hello, my name is Jocelyn, and I am apart of Gather 'round Farm in Cleveland. We are interested in this whole idea, we have a small urban flock of 15 chickens- I am not on here that often, but since you are scheduling a meeting I will try to check more often. My email is thatsherstory at gmail dot com which I check more often. Thanks!

There is only one other member of the Cleveland Farmers Buying Club. He hasn't responded http://www.localfoodcleveland.org/group/clevelandfarmersbuyersclub

We might just want to find some ways to get the word out at this point. Possibly we should just merge with that buying club.
