Comment by Lisa-Jean Sylvia on 9 November 2008 at 10:56am: Holiday Shares will be ready for pick-up on Thursday, Nov. 20th for everyone who placed an order. (December pickup is Dec. 18th). Pick up your share at the YWCA on Prospect Avenue between 6-8 pm, or at Urban Community School from 5-7 pm.

We will also be celebrating our volunteers during this time. Without the time and effort of our volunteers, City Fresh would not be possible. When picking up your shares, remember to thank the volunteers for their service AND think about signing up to help in 2009.

Comment by Lisa-Jean Sylvia on 23 October 2008 at 7:15pm: Thanks for the great Pumpkin ideas Pam. I am going to try the pumpkin yogurt as soon as I get some yogurt. My favorite use of the pumpkin is in muffins. Whenever I turn on the oven, I throw in a pumpkin then, just as you did, throw the baked insides into the fridge till I'm ready to make the muffins...pancakes are great too.

Comment by Pam C on 22 October 2008 at 3:03pm: For those of you looking for a way to use your share's baking pumpkin--i have a couple ideas. Last weekend I baked the small pumpkin as you would any squash. When ready I removed the pumpkin and stored in the refrig.
First I added some to my oatmeal which added a nice pumpkin flavor plus the added fiber and vitamins! With the rest I added to plain low fat yogurt, again adding enough pumpkin to the amount of flavor you want. Then I added some local honey and topped it off with cinnamon. It was good to eat as pumpkin flavored yogurt and it made a great dip for the local apples that were part of your City Fresh share.

As a retired person it is great to be able to have available at a reasonable price local, fresh and healty produce.

Farmers are always happy at the possibility of selling more goods. Also excited are the farmers' wives and mothers -- they will be baking some treats that we'll sell at the Holiday Fresh stops.
