Think Cleveland fruit share is a great idea! I have a source for crabapples for pectin and a antique apple orchard that could use some help. remote place also. farmerdeb7@cox.net

Sadness! RTA chopped down every single tree at the side of the East 93rd and Buckeye rapid transit station. My favorite cherry tree is now gone for good.

Sunday, Feb 13th at 10:30 am- To take advantage of the balmy near 40 degrees temperature tomorrow, we are holding a joint pruning session for the Detroit Shoreway Community Orchard on Wakefield (south of Franklin Blvd at West 81st)  and Cleveland Fruit Share. We'll start at the Orchard and then we'll move on to other grape vines and trees in the neighborhood that need pruning. Bring your tools and other tree locations  and wear snow boots! Call Bobbi at 650-6945 if you want to catch up with us after we leave the orchard.

I think that's a great idea! Thanks for volunteering to host. We could also gather at a library or public place - so as not to be a burden on you... but houses are nicer. I'm far away from you, but even if I couldn't come you could still do the event. I can explain to you how to add things and you could train others! yeah! Email me at jandrew.rome at gmail.com and we can coordinate.

Andrew-
I was just talking to my son Pete McDermott about us needing to map all of the trees that are available to pick from. What do you think about inviting people to get together to see how to use this mapping tool and bring the locations of trees and brambles? I could host at my house in the Detroit Shoreway neighborhood.

Hello! I started recording the fruit trees I find on a GoogleMap - it is publicly available and editable. Please feel free to add to it!

I boil them and use them to make pectin for my jams. it's easy, saves money and uses something that would otherwise rot. the problem is all of the newer varieties have very tiny crabapples and would be next to impossible to use. I can also use regular green apples before they ripen if you know of any near lakewood. As long as someone wouldn't mind knowing they were just going to be boiled to mush and the liquids drained for making jams.
