Information

Community Kitchen & Incubator Project

As part of the Sustainability Summit 2019, this group has committed to working on planning, designing, locating funding and space for community kitchens.

Members: 38
Latest Activity: Mar 7

Goals

This is just a brief introduction of our goals. The plan consists of two separate elements, community and business.

1) Community:
a.) enable local community gardeners to have a space where they can work on food preservation
b.) provide educational opportunities -- food safety, sanitation, canning, preserving
c) provide activities that build community - ie.; exchanges, dinners etc.
d) promote health and wellness

2) Business
a) provide an incubator space where entrepreneurs can begin to bring their products to market
b) provide start up business services

This is from memory, so it is not complete, but a generalization of our planning.

We had a lot of interest from people interested in attending the Community Kitchen and Incubator working group meeting on March 2nd. Unfortunately, a large number of people were unable to attend due to other commitments and reasons. So, we are going to give it another try on March 30th.

At this meeting, we will provide an overview of the project, next steps, the working groups and group chairs, and provide those who are interested with the opportunity to sign up for one of the working groups. Our 1-pger is attached, which will give you some basic information about the project and our goals. The working group meeting will take place:

Tuesday, March 30th at 7pm
Le Petit Triangle Cafe
1881 Fulton Avenue
Cleveland, Ohio 44113

Please rsvp to me by March 25th if plan on attending.

Feel free to pass this invite along to anyone who might be interested!

ACEnet was recently funded through an USDA/ODA specialty crop grant to assess the product development needs and market opporunties for the value-adding and microprocessing of local grown specialty crops. I would invite anyone interested in processing in Ohio to check out the attached assessment tool. If your are a specialty crop farmer and are interested in processing this year or in future years, I would welcome you filling the survey out and forwarding it to me by email. thanks in advance! I just thought I'd share, in this moment, a piece I wrote about the fermentation fair held earlier this year, where I met the talented and brilliant Sandor Katz - aka Sandorkraut. What a great advisor he'd be (he's my FB friend) to our value-added products work in the area of fermentation, specifically. All of these processes could be refined to create so many healthful value-added items naturally and organically - Cleveland Mead, Cleveland Kombucha - etc. Great potential.

I look forward to meeting those of you from this great group I haven't yet and meeting the great folks I met at Gypsy Bean at last meeting, again! There is a great opportunity to do great design work here that is truly collaborative and truly inclusive of all our community stakeholders. I look forward to sharing a meaningful mapping model to ensure maximum buy-in and synergy across our civic space. See you all soon!
