I'm with John in the fact that I also live in Hudson and can travel....AND I just learned that I will have another year here in Ohio. I would be very interested in learning more about what, where, etc for this Co-op. I'm already itching to get growi…
I need to start looking for a home for my girls come Aug. this year. My husband has re-joined the Army and I'm affraid they aren't going to let me have my babies (ok so they're gonna be a year old this March, but they're babies to me!!!) I have 4 Go…
The method my parents used to use was to soak a hand towel in warm water, and my mother had one of us girls hold the hen gently as possible while she "Cleaned" the hen to the best of her ability. I also remeber she would keep the Hen in the dog kenn…
If you buy hens from Myers you can buy 17 week old pulleys and they will be ready to winter this fall, but I don't recommend setting up a brooder at this time of the year that's for sure. Since hens start to lay at about 20 weeks you will be ready f…
So when you say a community garden, do you mean vegtable garden? I live in Hudson and spend a significant amount of time in Akron and would like to know more about what you are doing. Would you please share with me what cool new things are going on…
We manage 6 community gardens for the City of Akron (Akron Grows), a community garden for the residents of Cascade Village on the north side of Akron, and are putting in 3 gardens on the east side of Akron for The University Park Alliance.
If any of you are near, or want to meander out to Penisula soon...the berries are ripening. My son and I are headed out this weekend to get a hold of some of the blackberries found all over the Cuy. Valley National Park. Does anyone have any good hi…
Kim,
I have a neighbor who is Italian and we've debated Fig trees for 5 years now since moving back here from Italy ourselves. Apparently a large precentage of the Italian community has been in competition to grow Fig Trees here for years and none o…
My husband and I moved back to the states almost 5 years ago now from Europe, and we thought we'd moved back to another planet when we came "home". As veterans we dearly love our country, but when we came home in the middle of the Bush years we thought we'd entered another war zone! We now strive to live as we used to...simply, wholesome foods, green living...as we did in Italy. Now wonder so many end up on Xanax these days. Thankfully I met so many new wonderful people here in Cleveland and have managed to carve out my own little "La Fattora Verdi" my little Green Urban Farm, yes it's in even in Hudson..haha!
What gifts can you give to Cleveland's local food community?
I promise to always buy as much locally as I possibly can! I'm a LEED AP, and I sit on the NEO USGBC, I'm also political..so if that helps anyone..call om me.
What knowledge and practices do you want to learn?
Anything...I'm up for it all!
What about local food makes you most excited?
I grew up on a farm in SE Kansas, so eating fresh farm raised food is like going home for me. I want that for my family, I want my son to be healthy! I want to know what is in my FOOD!
